FFTA Licensing and Costs
What to expect in your first year.

Starting archery is an exciting journey, but it is essential to understand the initial investment. Here is a breakdown of the costs for your first year and what clubs affiliated with the French Archery Federation (FFTA) typically provide.
Club Membership Fees
The annual membership fee is the primary cost of joining. Rather than just a registration fee, it covers the club's operating costs and provides you with:
- Range Access: Use of the shooting facilities, whether indoors or outdoors.
- Coaching: Guidance from certified instructors to ensure you learn proper technique and safety protocols.
The FFTA License
The federal license is the official registration with the national federation. In most cases, the cost of the license is already included in your club membership fee. It serves two main purposes:
- Insurance: It provides liability and personal accident coverage while practicing.
- Competitions: It is required if you wish to enter official regional or national tournaments.
Equipment Loans
One of the biggest advantages for beginners is that you do not need to buy expensive gear right away. During the first year, most clubs will lend you all the necessary equipment, including:
- The bow and string
- Arrows and a quiver
- Safety gear (arm guard and finger tab)
